COMMON BASE STATION (CBS) OR COMMUNITY REPEATER Link Radio Services operate our own CBS systems covering Norfolk and North Suffolk and through tie-ups with other system operators can offer CBS service on an area-wide basis, nationally. A Common Base Station (CBS) or Community Repeater is a wide area shared access system. The base station equipment, owned by the system operator, is normally located at a prime hill-top aerial site to provide the maximum area of coverage. Subscribers to the system share access to the radio channel with a system of sub-audible tone control ensuring privacy between user groups. When a user group or subscriber is using the channel other user groups are 'locked-out' to prevent channel contention. Individual radio conversations are limited to a maximum duration of two minutes to ensure equal opportunity of access to all users. Common Base Station systems have a number of advantages over other forms of radio communication:-
Our CBS systems operate in the VHF high band spectrum and require standard VHF PBR radio equipment. This equipment including both mobiles and handportables can either be purchased by the subscriber or can be provided by ourselves on a hire basis. Each subscriber to our CBS system pays a fixed monthly charge for each radio unit they have on service. There are no additional call charges incurred no matter what the usage and no licence fees to pay.
